Industrial Dwellings Society

Establishing history and ambition in a brand redevelopment for one of the UK’s oldest housing associations.

THE CHALLENGE

Industrial Dwellings Society was looking for an agency to help them strategise, design and deliver a new brand as well as push them on a path of gentle modernisation of offline and online transformation. We provided our guidance in the overall planning and eventual implementation of the new brand identity.

OUR APPROACH

Industrial Dwellings Society has a rich history and a capacity to do more to serving their customers. We helped them map-out a gentle online and offline transformation across three stages:

  • Setting the intention, improving stakeholder engagement and agreement to the visual transformation.
  • In-depth communication workshops to determine the digital communication framework.
  • Large-scale redevelopment that will propel them forwards in their digital and non-digital related services.

THE IDENTITY

The identity is centred around the deep historical narrative and renewed ambitions of the organisation.

The previous abbreviated name IDS was relatively unknown, so we worked to bring the name back to it original name Industrial Dwellings Company and added more visual prominence to the age by including the establishment date of 1885. The logotype style also harks back to the signage from one of their Victorian mansion blocks, but with a modern typeface and bold colour palette to juxtapose the symoblic meanings of old heritage and modern ambition.
